Affiliate links

Some links pay us. None of them choose for you.

IRL is free, has no ads, and never sells your data. Part of how it pays for itself is affiliate links. This page says exactly what that means.

Last updated October 16, 2026.

What we earn

Some links in IRL are affiliate links. If you tap one and then book a stay, a tour or a ticket, the company you book with may pay Modern Mustard Seed LLC, the company that makes IRL, a commission. You pay the same price you would pay going there directly. We earn nothing from a tap alone, only from a booking you choose to make.

How you can tell

Every affiliate link has the words “Affiliate link” right beside it, on the website and in the app. A link without those words earns us nothing.

What it never changes

  • Your plan is built first, from your answers, the map, the forecast and what is on, with no knowledge that any affiliate program exists. Only after it is finished do we look at whether a link already in it points to a company we work with.
  • An affiliate program never adds, removes, reorders, ranks, filters or chooses anything we show you.
  • The places in a plan keep their own links. A restaurant, a bar or a trail is never swapped for a booking site.
  • The Scene lists events in the order they start, then by distance, whoever sold the ticket. Wrapping a ticket link changes only where that one link goes.
  • The stay and tour searches on a trip are plain searches for that city and those dates, always in the same order, whatever any company pays. We do not pick a hotel or a tour for you.
  • No company pays to appear in IRL, and no company can pay to rank higher in it.

The programs

These are the only programs IRL's links can belong to, and whether each one is switched on today.

  • Booking.com (Booking.com, through Awin). The “Stays in” searches on a trip. Not switched on yet, so these links earn nothing today.
  • GetYourGuide (GetYourGuide Partner Program). The “Things to book” searches on a trip. Not switched on yet, so these links earn nothing today.
  • Viator (Viator Partner Program). The “Things to book” searches on a trip. Not switched on yet, so these links earn nothing today.
  • Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster, through Impact). Ticket links on Ticketmaster events in the Scene and in plans. Not switched on yet, so these links earn nothing today.
  • SeatGeek (SeatGeek, through Impact). Ticket links on SeatGeek events in the Scene and in plans. Not switched on yet, so these links earn nothing today.

Expedia links on a trip are plain searches and earn nothing. If that changes, it will be listed here first.

What we keep

When you tap an affiliate link it may pass through irl.modernmustardseed.com/go on the way out, so we can count which program, page and city it was for. We keep no address, no link and nothing about you. The privacy page has the details.
